The growing to do list, the client work, the home, the kids, the partner ... all clawing for our time. Where does that leave us and how do we ensure that time is well spent and not wasted?

One of the reasons I work with a coach is the accountability it provides, keeping me on track and focused in the right areas of the business. However, even though I would consider myself a well-organised person and focused  ... I can get distracted and waste minutes and hours.

review, refocus, restThe way in which I work has been on my mind quite a lot lately, wondering why in my business there is always stuff that just doesn’t get done or reprioritised. There is the key, it’s my business that suffers as I put my clients first, which in many ways is the way it should be BUT is this holding LBB Business Solutions back.

Add to the equation running a home, being a mother of two small children, a wife, a sister and daughter and the sands of time disappear further.

The answer is simple because while I can’t manage time, I can manage me and I obviously need to do better. Often the distractions are because I feel overwhelmed, frustrated by the lack of time I have to work in the business. I jump from one task to another, almost playing catch up and never fully satisfied with what I have achieved.

All signs I would say for burnout, falling out of love with my business and time to give myself a good talking to I would suggest. You might be thinking why am I sharing this with you when potentially you might start to think this woman is on the edge – why would you work with her! I am always open and honest and most importantly share because I want you to know I have been (and on some days) I am exactly where you are. I am not in an ivory tower spouting ‘stuff’ I have learnt from a book – I live and breathe business every day, I feel your pain and understand your struggles and challenges. It’s what I believe makes me good at what I do, and why I love what I do.

If you are wasting time in your business, not focusing your energies in the right places or not sure which path to take. Stop and following this simple plan.

1. Review
Where the business is, what’s working, what needs your attention and where you need to give yourself a pat on the back.

2. Refocus

Create a 90 day action plan to address the pinch points, tackle the challenges and focus your activity where it’s needed.

3. Rest
While time is money, taking time out of the business, away from the laptop or PC is important - give yourself a break.

I do take my own advice and my 90 day plan, along with my coach is what keeps me focused, ensuring my attention in the right areas of the business and keeping my end game in sight at all times.
